Developer invoice template
Development work bills cleanest against milestones, and the invoice should say which one this is. The sample references the spec section, bills an approved change order as its own line, and states what the payment unlocks.
Opens in the free editor with the sample below pre-filled — swap the numbers for yours.
What belongs on a developer invoice
"Milestone 3: feature-complete on staging (per spec §4)" survives an accounts-payable review; "development work" gets queried.
Anything approved after the original quote gets its own line with the approval reference — never silently folded into a milestone amount.
If launch or handover waits on this payment, the invoice should say so plainly. It shortens the wait more than any reminder email.
The preview uses the Clean layout — you can switch between all three templates in the editor without losing a word.
Quoting the job before it’s won? There’s a developer quote template too — your client accepts it online, and one click turns it into this invoice.
Developer invoicing questions
Hourly or fixed-price on the invoice?
Whichever the engagement agreed — but if hourly, attach or link the hours log and summarize it to one line per week. An invoice with 40 timestamped rows reads like a dispute waiting to happen.
Do I invoice before or after deploying?
Invoice on the client-verifiable state (staging demo, sign-off) rather than after production deploy, so the final payment and the final risk don't sit on your side at the same time.
