Painter invoice template

The most valuable line on a painting invoice costs nothing to write: the color codes. The sample records them for future touch-ups, splits walls from trim so the price reads fairly, and bills the paint by the gallon.

Opens in the free editor with the sample below pre-filled — swap the numbers for yours.

What belongs on a painter invoice

Record the color codes

Writing "SW 7008 / SW 7016" on the invoice makes it the document the customer keeps for years — and the reason they call you for the next room.

Walls and trim are different work

Trim is slower per square foot; billing it separately explains the total and lets the customer decline it consciously next time.

Coats in the description

"2 coats" is the difference between your quote and the cheaper one. Say it on the line.

Painter invoicing questions

By the room, hour, or square foot?

Residential interiors read best by the room with coats stated; square footage suits commercial bids. Hourly painting invoices make customers watch the clock instead of the walls.

Who buys the paint?

Either works, but the invoice must say which. If you supply it, bill gallons at your stated rate — the markup covers pickup and color-matching, and it's honest to show it.
